In Legion Baseball, leadership isn’t about being the star…
it’s about lifting your team higher.

Coaches and Managers,
Welcome to American Legion Baseball for the Department of Puerto Rico for the 101st Tournament Season.
For more than 44 years, Puerto Rico has showcased the very best of our young athletes through this program, and we are honored to invite you to be part of this legacy that strengthens our communities through sports, mentorship, and service.

Puerto Rico’s participation in American Legion Baseball began in 1969, and since then our players have carried the island’s tradition and competitive spirit onto the national stage.
Our teams captured the American Legion World Series Championship three times (1973, 1974, and 1984) and have reached finals on other occasions, proudly representing Boricua athletic grit. Among our alumni are two Baseball Hall of Famers, Roberto Alomar and Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez, who both wore Legion uniforms in Puerto Rico before excelling at the highest levels of the sport.

As veterans, coaches, and mentors here in Puerto Rico, you do more than manage a team, you shape future leaders. Legion Baseball emphasizes servant leadership, discipline, unity, and respect. Through this program, you contribute to youth development, community pride, and the values that have strengthened millions of players throughout American Legion history. Together, we build not only competitive athletes, but men of character, service, and purpose.

Who We Are
American Legion Baseball from the Departamento de Puerto Rico is a youth baseball program sponsored by U.S. military veterans who proudly represent the National Organization for the last 103 years in the Island.
Through the game we love, we help develop young athletes into disciplined, confident, and community-minded leaders.

Established within the Department of Puerto Rico in 1969, our program has represented the Island and the Caribbean across the United States for more than five decades, competing with honor in national tournaments and the American Legion World Series. We are recognized as one of the strongest and most competitive programs outside the continental U.S.

Our teams proudly wear the name of a Legion Post within the Department of Puerto Rico, representing communities such as Carolina, Caguas, Dorado, Salinas, Vega Baja, Guaynabo, Humacao, Ponce and many more. Each post is formed by veterans who continue serving by mentoring and supporting our youth through baseball, education, leadership, scholarships, and civic responsibility.

American Legion Baseball within the Department of Puerto Rico has helped develop players who advanced into college athletes, international competitors, professional players, and Major League Baseball stars, including Roberto Alomar, Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez, and the Molina brothers (Bengie, José, Yadier) who are proud products of Puerto Rican baseball and the American Legion system.

For us, baseball is more than a sport. It is a way to build character, honor our veterans, represent our department and strengthen our youth through discipline, teamwork, respect for the uniform and service to our communities.

Legion Baseball has served as a foundation for most NCAA and major-league athletes with nearly 75% of current college players and more than half of current MLB players having come through this program.

When you join American Legion Baseball for the Department of Puerto Rico, you are contributing to that legacy.

Play with honor.
Lead with purpose.
Represent Puerto Rico.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Martínez González
Americanism Chairwoman

OUR 2024 TEAMS

Team SBO Post 2
Team SBO PR Post 129

Team TSD Post 160
Team SIEGE Post 84
In the month of May we began Legion Baseball in Puerto Rico with 4 Teams after 13 years of absence in the Island. Puerto Rico has been in 5 World Series in this League (1973, 1974, 1984, 1989 & 1990) and obtained World Championships in 1973, 1974, 1984. Our Department Commander Carmen I Rosario (2022-2024) had this program in mind when she became commander and worked the past two years to ensure it was in place before she finished her tenure with our Chairman Angel Narvaez and Organizer Rene Berlingeri by contacting and signing MOU with the Municipality of Caguas and Criollos de Caguas local Winter Baseball Team. There has been 87 MLB Players that have played Legion Baseball including Puerto Rico Hall of Famers Roberto Alomar & Ivan Rodriguez. We dedicated our Inaugural game to Lino Rivera Ortiz who played with Texas Ranger, Detroit, Saint Louise, Pittsburg, Taiwan & Mexico and was part of Legion Baseball in 1983. As well we had the blessing of having interviews with our athletes in CTNI Sports with Pedro Leon who played Legion Baseball in 1984.

It's no secret that Puerto Rico is not a stranger to Baseball, no matter the teams or positions we are used to see a Puerto Rican in an MLB Team. Many of them have played in Legion Baseball, two Hall of Famers as recent as Roberto Alomar & Ivan Rodriguez have also played Legion Baseball. After a 13-year break in this league in the Island we can happily say we are back on track to work with our youth in Legion Baseball thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Caguas that believed in our organization and signed a 5-year MOU to get the ball rolling. We had four teams in this year's rosters and the final was between TSD/Post 160 & SBO PR/Post 129.
On 13th of July, we had our final game for Legion Baseball in Puerto Rico. The baseball park was full of great energy since Teams were tied 1-1 it literally could have been anyone's game.
Team SBO Puerto Rico who is sponsored by Post 129 was up 5-1 in the top of the 7th inning. We have to say that the spectators were pumped up cheering for their teams and were really on their seats hoping for the best. Team TSD who is sponsored by Post 160 was entering the bottom of the 7th, no outs and hits started going on this teams favor until they won 6-5 winning the Championship and Pass to the Southeast Regional Tournament.
